Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered numerous engaging creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure features a protagonist that is literally a turd trying to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. In one hundred fifty challenges, encounter boss fights and visit a store to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.
Plan your movements with caution, as a error forces restarting the level. Bounce using floating orbs to launch yourself upward, navigate crumbling platforms, and touch triggers to unlock hidden paths. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult game content in which the action intensifies.
Graphically, the game features neon stages and a killer music score. The retro art with morphing abstract forms may remind fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though tough to recall other games where you play as a dung character, gaming have long featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already received impressive accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version planned to debut on Steam on November 19.
